When speaking with clients to gather information for a case a legal professional will often be tasked with determining whether or not they should rely on the information being provided by their client to determine if further investigation should be conducted.

A client should never dictate the course of the investigation that will be conducted on a case.  This can easily happen when reliance is placed on the client’s embellished information to determine what should be submitted to a private investigator or outside agency to gather more information.  Doing this can amount to hundreds and thousands of dollars being wasted on a wild goose chase that does not result in anything except for a legal malpractice suit when the client receives a huge bill for the wild goose chase that they sent you on.

That is why it is extremely important to understand how to determine what type of communicator your client is and whether or not they will stretch the truth in order to obtain a favorable outcome in their case.  Understanding a client’s communication style results in more thorough and effective client interviews and can assist with obtaining favorable outcomes in a case.
