When a person goes to the doctor because they are suffering the doctor can look at the symptoms, run some tests, and either provide a prescription or let the patient know what to do so the condition does not get worse. If the patient listens to the doctor who is trained to deal with that particular issue further suffering and complications can be avoided. As our country and the world has its eyes fixated on whether or not North Korea will pull the trigger we may want to pay equal attention to dealing with internal issues that could be as explosive as a nuclear bomb.
Let’s take a look at the symptoms that our country is exhibiting based off of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Report and the CNBC’s report: America’s Most Destructive Riots of All Times and determine for ourselves if there is cause for concern:
Issues that resulted in riots and other organized mayhem:
- Racial and extremist beliefs
- Prison overcrowding
- Opposition to pending or new government regulations
- Backlash for police brutality
- 813% increase in the number of hate and anti-government groups within a five year period
- Prison overcrowding resulting in federal oversight
- Less new jobs created than expected
- Immigration legislation
- Same sex marriage legislation
- Gun control legislation
- Belief that the government is conspiring with other countries to create a “New World Order”
According to a letter written by the Southern Poverty Law Center on March 5, 2013 to the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security there has been an explosive growth of hate and extremism in the United States of America Read the full letter. A similar letter was written in 1994 to the Attorney General prior to the Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people. In an episode of VH1 Rock Doc’s Uprising: Hip Hip and the LA Riots various music artists, public officials, and other individuals discuss the events that led to what is still considered to be the worst riot in Los Angeles history.
To quote Jorge’ Augustin Nicolas Ruiz de Santayana y Borras also known by his American name George Santayana “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”. All the symptoms are present for a very real prediction that our country is heading towards an explosive situation. Hopefully those with the power and authority to do so will review historical accounts and implement a method to detect and prevent issues like these from occurring during the highly volatile environment that we are currently living in.
